I had volunteered with animal shelters before but never as a photographer. This was a huge learning experience–very challenging all around plus pee and puppy spit up. Speaking just as a photographer (of 14 years…), it was humbling, to say the least. I made mistakes and felt like a newbie. As a human being it was hard because each dog looks at you like you’re their mom and why aren’t you taking them with you? and it’s heartbreaking. The work the shelter staff and volunteers do every day astounds me and I’m grateful for having the chance to work with them. I look forward to next time and coming back with more experience! More dog photos to come…
